Skell's Quest v0.0.4 - UI, Performance, Saving, Achievements & more

It has been another busy month for my game development. The projects page has been updated to link to the newest version of Skell's Quest, but it's also here for your convenience.

What's New in Skell's Quest?

Version 0.0.4 features some performance improvements, as a lot of the effort is loaded prior to the game booting. A title scene and a loading scene have both been added, as well as a bunch of other nice QOL features.

NPCs now have icons to indicate their quest status

You can move the camera around in more ways than before - You can zoom in and out, as well as circle the camera around Skell. I've already had some feedback that it would be nice to have a two-way system to move the camera, so I'll look into improving that more soon.

Achievements are now part of the game; you earn various achievements for doing different activities, however it's worth pointing out that the level-up achievements at the moment seem to break the game, so that's something I'll need to re-visit down the line.

Crafting has also received a major boost. You can now craft from the bank, as well as your inventory! You can toggle the bank crafting feature on and off from the craft screen. You can craft multiple items in one go and you can click the convenient Craft All for when you just want it to cycle through and craft the whole thing for you.

The Next Update

Next up, I'm going to start working on dungeons. This will mean I'll be revisiting combat, possibly improving the inventory, character and attributes at the same time.

I'm going to try to implement a proper boss fight, as well as a trash pack (a cluster of enemies) and an 'elite' fight. I expect the fights to be difficult, but hopefully it won't be too difficult. Expect to need to gear up for it!

What else is going on?

There's not a lot else to say. I updated this blog system recently, where there's now an estimated reading time. Other than that, it's business as usual for me.

During the day job, I'm working on getting AWS certification (Going for the Associate Solutions Architect certification). Other than that, it's keep on keeping on.

I intend to make sure there's at least one blog post on here per month, so I'll be back in August with another post, be it an update, a technical post or something completely different.

Until next time, much love to all, thanks for reading and remember to keep plugging on - Timlah
